Sri Lankan Choral Week has been set up in order to attract singers from around the world to share musical experiences in rehearsing and performing the immense beauty of Bach's St John Passion in the idyllic surroundings of Sri Lanka. The performance will take place in the magnificent Cathedral of Christ the Living Saviour in Colombo on the Saturday prior to Palm Sunday, with an orchestra formed from players of the Chamber Music Society of Colombo (Artistic Director, Lakshman Joseph de Saram), and Sri Lankan soloists. It will be conducted by Artistic Director Gregory Rose, a frequent visitor to Sri Lanka. This will be a unique experience for all those involved - a week of joyous music-making.
Each visiting singer will receive singing lessons from the experienced singer and vocal coach, Alison Wells, and Gregory will hold conducting masterclasses during the course for a small group of conductors, assisted by a group of players from the Chamber Music Society of Colombo. The choral rehearsals will be accompanied by the experienced local musician Soundarie David.
Six participants will have the opportunity to study conducting with Gregory Rose and all participants can enroll for singing lessons with Alison Wells. Lessons are included in the course fee.
